J/CarnacGIS allows software developers to integrate interactive map views and queries into their own applications. Written entirely in Java, J/CarnacGIS offers a rich graphics environment for building stand-alone or web-enabled clients for map-based query and spatial data analysis. J/CarnacGIS components interface easily with existing systems to provide enhanced services while preserving investments in data and infrastructure.

J/CarnacGIS can connect to a multitude of different data sources, including raster and vector formats. A powerful data source framework allows application developers to use data from disparate sources in the same view. If the data is projected differently, J/CarnacGIS will transform it on the fly. If the data is being updated in real-time, J/CarnacGIS can respond to those updates and refresh the view as soon as new data is available.


An extensible architecture allows J/CarnacGIS to integrate custom data sources quickly and easily with the rest of our standard components. This means that once you build a connection to the J/CarnacGIS environment (in the form of a GisDataSource), we do the rest: query, classification, selection, transformation, export, and all the other features the J/CarnacGIS framework provides. If the data set is extremely large, J/CarnacGIS can intelligently cache to maximize performance. The entire framework has been designed to do as much as possible for you, and to guide you on the right path when you need to extend it to meet specific needs. This saves time and money not only in development costs, but also testing and maintenance.

J/CarnacGIS supports over 2700 different EPSG/OGP standard projections, and will automatically transform geographic data on-the-fly. Interfaces are provided that allow developers to incorporate their own coordinate systems and projections. This ensures that your view of the data is always rendered in a consistent coordinate reference system, reducing errors and problems caused by mismatched units of measure and data projections.
