Sercel
Chooses Carnac as Foundation Graphics Library for Seismic Acquisition System,
SQC-Pro

The
Challenge
Sercels customers needed the ability to examine the quality
of seismic data after it was recorded. Sercel believed there was a way to control
data quality, focusing on seismic attributes (i.e. signal-to-noise ratio, energy,
etc.) as it was being retrieved.
Sercel
contacted INT regarding the Carnac graphics toolkit for C++. After an evaluation,
Sercel chose Carnac to be the foundation graphics library for the front-end of
its seismic acquisition system, SQC-Pro. After the completion of SQC Pro, INT
and Sercel focused on the development of a new generation seismic acquisition
system.
The
INT Solution
INT developed a graphic user interface of the entire system.
During the course of the project, INT implemented numerous graphics modules for
the application and provided expert advice to Sercel regarding application design
and implementation techniques.
INT
then focused on the design of the graphics interface that controlled the seismic
data acquisition for Sercel's new "408UL" line of hardware as well as
the legacy "SN388" line. The software system consisted of hardware interface
layers, a proprietary database, and an operator's console application. The latter
provided an extensive graphics-based user interface to monitor the operation of
individual hardware components, to monitor the quality of gathered data, to perform
system tests, and to oversee the process in general.
The
Results
Through
extensive training for INT graphics toolkits, the Sercel staff achieved a higher
level of flexibility with its customers. In addition, INT turned over all of the
code and necessary documentation to Sercels staff so they could properly
maintain the application.
