PGS
Surf & Connect Base Map Module

The
Challenge
PGS Petrobank addresses the difficulties E&P companies face
in managing and interpreting huge volumes of sub-surface data. A key component
of Petrobank is Surf & Connect, a graphical database front-end tool that provides
capabilities to access data from Petrobank and other vendor database systems at
the same time.
For
the new version of Surf & Connect, PGS found that its customers needed the
ability to access and select geographical data across the Internet. PGS also wanted
to make the geographical selection module (basemap) a component that could be
reused in other web-based applications.
The
INT Solution
PGS decided to rewrite the Surf & Connect application
in JavaTM using INT's J/CarnacPro as the toolkit for all graphical components.
J/CarnacPros advanced labeling capability offered a feature unavailable
in most other 2D toolkits. In phase one, PGS built a GIS module prototype that
pulled geographical data from the server and allowed it to be visualized.
In
phase two, INT and PGS moved into the development of the graphical GIS module,
which would be the web-enabled front-end to the new version of Surf & Connect.
The prototype was presented to customers at a PGS users group meeting and generated
much excitement and anticipation.
The
Results
PGS is performing system integration and beginning deployment of
the new GIS module world wide. INT staff is available to provide any necessary
last minute enhancements or bug fixes.
PGS
is also extending its consulting relationship with INT on a new project, a seismic
viewer based on Java. This project will enable PGS's customers to view seismic
data remotely over the web.
