INT
Develops Cross-section, Well and 3D Viewers for OpenSpirit

The
Challenge
The OpenSpirit framework provides business objects and services
that allow applications to dynamically share data and events across heterogeneous
data stores. Although OpenSpirit focuses on data access and exchange services,
they decided it would be a great benefit to their customers to include a set of
fully integrated data viewers. These viewers allow OpenSpirit users to easily
interact with their data and provide developers with a set of tools and examples
to help them create applications based on the OpenSpirit framework more efficiently.
The
INT Solution
OpenSpirit selected INT to develop the viewers. INT's Java
toolkits, including J/View3DPro and J/GeoToolkit, plus its experience developing
GUI based applications for many of the major oil & gas and service companies
were critical factors in the success of the project.
The
Results
The
first phase of the project included the development of a fully integrated 2D cross-section
and well log viewer that allowed users to interact seamlessly with OpenSpirit
data objects and services. The second phase involved the development of a 3D viewer
that could provide visualization of geologic and geophysical data together within
a single 3D scene. The cross-section and well log viewers were delivered in June
of 2001. The 3D viewer was delivered in October of 2001.
OpenSpirit
is integrating the viewer into its standard distribution, and the source code
for the viewers will be included. The source will provide a comprehensive set
of examples showing how to access OpenSpirit business objects and interact with
its event mechanism. INT toolkit customers will also be able to customize and
extend the viewers.
