Java User Tips

The viewers require the installation of Sun Microsystems' Java Runtime Environment 5 Plug-in (or newer). If an earlier version of the Java Plug-in is installed, you should download and install the latest version. Normally, if Java is not installed on your machine, your browser will prompt you automatically for the installation. If this does not happen or if the automatic download fails, you can click on the link below to download it manually.

 Get Java Now

To find out why Java is safe to install and run on your computer, please click here.

To make sure that you have installed the java plugin correctly, run the clock demo applet page by clicking here.

If your site is using a firewall, it may be necessary to manually enter the http proxy setting for the (internal) Firewall IP address and the port number of the proxy port (usually 80) instead of relying upon the Use Browser Settings checkbox. The reason for this is that browsers are often configured for automatic proxy detection, but this information is not always passed down to the proxy window of the Java Plug-in and will sometimes need to be set manually. For other problems, please refer to Sun’s Java plugin troubleshooting page.

If you have been able to run the clock applet and still have trouble running the viewers, we will need to view the messages displayed by the Java Plugin console. Record the error messages displayed by the Java Plugin Console and contact INT at support@int.com. The following details how to enable console message display:

Windows (Internet Explorer and/or Netscape):

1.       Go to the Control Panel and double click on the java plugin icon

2.       Select option “Enable Java Console”

Solaris and Linux:

1.       Make sure your NPX_PLUGIN_PATH environmental variable includes a path to the Java Plugin library javaplugin

2.      Launch Netscape and load the ControlPanel.html file (usually found at $JAVA_HOME/jre/ )

3.      Select the “Enable Java Console” option
