INT
Announces JavaBean Components for the E&P Software Industry
HOUSTON, Texas
(October 28, 1997): Interactive Network Technologies, Inc. (INT)
is developing GeoBeans™, a library of JavaBeans™ visualization components
for the development of E&P applications. With beans for seismic
displays, logs, contours, maps and XY-plots, this library will be of
interest to a wide range of developers programming in the Java™ environment.
Java is quickly becoming the environment
of choice for developing highly interactive, cross-platform and web-enabled software
solutions. JavaBeans is the component-based software architecture for the Java
Platform. GeoBeans is based on the powerful and proven technology of Carnac™,
INT’s object oriented graphical toolkit.
Component technology is
changing the way in which applications are developed. INT GeoBeans are powerful,
easy to use and can be integrated directly with Interactive Development Environments
for the graphical building of applications. By using off-the-shelf, commercial
quality building blocks, developers can focus their attention on the application’s
specifics rather than spend time writing basic data displays.
GeoBeans
are a collection of beans designed specifically for the needs of E&P applications.
The Seismic Bean is designed for viewing and manipulating seismic data for use
in applications such as seismic QC, interactive processing, and interpretation.
Primary features include comprehensive display and annotation options, a flexible
multi-source data interface, built-in filtering , AGC and hardcopy support for
PostScript and CGM.
The WellLog Beans provide all the necessary
components for displaying and manipulating well log data for such applications
as log analysis, wavelet estimation, or petrophysical interpretation. Applications
using INT WellLog beans can organize their displays as tracks, with each track
containing multiple instances of log curves, lithologies, markers and perforation
data. Parallel tracks can share axes, while curves can use shared or individual
axes. Data access beans are interface based and can be extended to directly input
data from a database, or to tie-in with the application's internal data formats.
The Contour Bean is designed to display contour information from grids. A
choice of several contouring methods with optional fault definition give the user
complete control over the output.
Other beans include PlotLayout
Beans, which manage the layout of plots, including support for multi-level axes,
scrollbars, titles, headers and footers. INT also offers beans to edit and manipulate
individual colors or colormaps; and beans to visualize maps and handle the display
of large images.
Availability
INT will demonstrate
a prototype of the GeoBeans library at the SEG conference, this November, in Dallas,
Texas. The first release of the library will be Q1 of 1998. A “100% pure Java”
version of the library, based on Java2D, will be available Q2 of 1998.
